Um einige negativen Rückmeldungen zum Unlock des iPhone aus der Welt zu schaffen, beantwortet das iPhone DEV-Team das wichtigste in einer kurzen Zusammenfassung. Genau gesagt geht es um den SIM-Unlock beim iPhone 3G und iPhone 3GS mit der iPhone Software v3.0.Auf kleinigkeiten sollte man beim Unlocken des iPhone achten, da sonnst zu viel Akku verbraucht wird und es zu kleinen Funktionsstörungen kommen kann.

Unusual battery depletion is almost always caused by people choosing to “Restore from backup” instead of “Setup as new iPhone” when iTunes asks you.  This isn’t caused by either the jailbreak or the unlock, but it’s a common 3.0 snafu. The fix is to just re-run the official 3.0 restore and choose “Setup as new” this time.  Your music and apps and all that will still be synced, but you’ll get rid of any conflicting wifi, bluetooth, or carrier settings.  Then just re-run redsn0w and install ultrasn0w.

Remember, ultrasn0w works with hacktivated phones too, but don’t outsmart redsn0w into thinking you don’t need hacktivation! If you don’t plan on using an official sim, don’t activate via iTunes with such a sim.  Just keep your unofficial sim at all times and let redsn0w and ultrasn0w handle hacktivation

T-Mobile in the USA doesn’t use the 3G frequencies that the iPhones support, so turn off 3G in Settings->General->Network.  (Some T-Mobile territories gracefully hand down to Edge mode, but most do not).

Certain unofficial plans have limitations on whether you can make calls and use data at the same time. That’s not unlock-related.

Some people have installed previous versions of ultrasn0w using non-standard techniques. While the ultrasn0w 0.9 update should have removed all previous versions of ultrasn0w, these users may have outsmarted our removal.  So make sure you don’t still see /usr/bin/ultrasn0w present if you’re at ultrasn0w 0.9 (which doesn’t have such a binary anymore).

If you don’t need or plan to update to ultrasn0w 0.9 from a previous version, you can avoid having that red badge over Cydia by removing repo666 as a Cydia source.  Don’t worry, you can always add it back later  If you follow us on twitter you’ll be advised of any new updates anyway.

Das iPhone Dev-Team hat heute Morgen Ultrasn0w auf Version 0.9 aktualisiert. Diese neue Version beinhaltet einige behebungen von Bug. Somit soll das Problem mit dem Erscheinen des “Missing SIM” Popup gefixt sein. Das bei einem Firmware Update (falls das Baseband identisch ist) Utrasn0w nicht mehr aktualisiert werden muss, ist auch neu.

Es wurde auch, in einem langen Artikel, Stellung genommen zu GeoHot’s Purplesn0w Unlock und dem heute erschienenen RC2 Update. Das der daemon von ultrasn0w mehr Akku verbraucht wäre falsch, der Akku wird durch ultrasn0w nicht beansprucht. Ultrasn0w verbrauche nur weniger als 1% RAM Speicher, wobei hingegen Puprlesn0w 6900 mal mehr RAM verbrauche. Der Unlock von Geohot wäre nicht “sauber”, da er sich in das System einhackt und das iPhone überhaupt nicht merkt, dass Purplera1n CPU verbraucht.

Wir glauben nicht (Dev-Team), dass purplesn0w der richtige Weg ist, aber es hat sicherlich bei der Verbesserung von ultrasn0w dazu beigetragen. Wir danken geohot für einen Beitrag an die Szene noch einmal. P.S. geohot, seriously, stop dicking around and look at the bootrom instead kthx. =P

Wer geohot ‘aka George Hotz auf Twitter folgt, hat in den letzten Tagen einen kleinen Krieg zwischen ihm und dem Dev-Team mitbekommen haben. Das Dev-Team brachte vor kurzem “ultrasn0w” womit GeoHot sich nicht anfreunden konnte und dafür bringt er uns nun über eine Repo in Cydia das Programm “purplesn0w” als beta. Auch damit ist es möglich, beim iPhone 3GS andere Mobilfunk-Karten zu nutzen wenn das 3GS nicht unlocked ist. Also nur mit dem Mobilfunkanbieter funktioniert wo es gekauft wurde, wie bei T-Mobile und AT&T. Zudem wird purplesn0w nicht so viel Akkuleistung fressen wie der Pendant vom Dev-Team. Das ganze wird nichts als Hintergrundprozess bei purplesn0w funktionieren, sondern über Apple’s Ticketing-System. GeoHot beglückte uns ja vor kurzem schon mit dem Jailbreak des 3GS “purplera1n“, welches vor dem Jailbreak des Dev-Team veröffentlicht wurde.

Das Dev-Team hat nun geschrieben, das der Jailbreak des iPhone 3GS gelungen ist. Damit steht dem Unlock mit ultrasn0w auch nicht mehr viel im Wege, da das Baseband das gleiche ist wie beim iPhone 3G. Bis zur Veröffentlichung wird aber noch ein bisschen Zeit vergehen. Mit einer Modifizierung des 24Kpwn-Jailbreak, der auch beim iPod Touch der 2. Generation funktioniert, wird das ganze ausgehebelt.

Important: Apple has not given up on the cat&mouse game, and in fact there are challenging aspects of the 3GS jailbreak that aren’t in the other devices.  It’ll take some time to safely work these into our tools, but the fundamental weaknesses are there:  The bootrom is exploitable via 24Kpwn, and the baseband is exploitable via ultrasn0w.  (And just like with the 3G, ultrasn0w for 3GS requires that you not update your baseband when Apple comes out with new firmware.)

7. T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w

Baseband 04.26.08 der aktuellen Firmware 3.0 wird benötigt!

* Nach dem Jailbreak, Cydia öffnen
* In den Sources auf “Add” klicken und folgendes Repo hinzufügen “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com”
* Danach auf “fertig” klicken und auf die Source tippen. Da “ultrasn0w” suchen und installieren.
* iPhone 3G neu starten und dann die neue SIM-Karte einlegen
* Nun ist das iPhone 3G entsperrt

Ultrasnow, so wird die neue Version des Unlocks für das iPhone 3G (und evtl. iPhone 3GS) heißen. Das verkündete das Dev-Team Member MuscleNerd mit einer Live Demonstration des Programms. Es gibt auch gute Neuigkeiten für alle, die ohne PwnageTool auf eine neuere Firmware upgedated haben, oder ihr iPhone mit der aktuellen Firmware erhalten haben und deswegen den Bootloader 5.9 installiert haben.

Ultrasn0w funktioniert mit dem aktuellen Bootloader und Baseband 04.26.08.
Der Unlock soll schon am Freitag für alle zum download bereit stehen.
